Civil society organisations and movements on 25th October 2021 launched a landmark Manifesto calling for a renewed approach to public services, such as education, energy, food, health and care services, housing, social security, telecommunications, transportation, waste collection and disposal, and water and sanitation, to address the ecological, inequalities and other crises the world is currently facing.

On the first day of the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s World Health Assembly (24th May 2021), 8 civil society organisations sent an open letter to the Deputy Director-General of the WHO raising concerns about a recent report published by the WHO that could encourage the privatisation of healthcare amidst a COVID-19 pandemic that re-emphasised the challenges of commercialisation of healthcare systems, and without the necessary open debate that such an issue requires.
Stop hospital detention of women seeking maternal health services
Initiative for Social and Economic Rights (ISER) together with community members filed a case in the High Court Mukono District, challenging detention of mothers who fail to clear hospital bills in private health facilities. In the civil suit, the Attorney General and respective Local Governments are held accountable for the violation of constitutional and international human rights.
