Leaving No One Behind: Barriers to Continuity of Education for Vulnerable Children Impacted by Covid-19 in Uganda

The Initiative for Social and Economic Rights (ISER) undertook a situational analysis of the challenges confronting the girl child – and children more generally – from impoverished backgrounds when it comes to accessing education, following the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. This study sought to understand how the pandemic impacted the learning prospects of this cohort, more especially the implications of measures implemented to control its spread, including among others: the widespread loss of income and livelihood experienced by many Ugandan families as a result of government-imposed lockdown  measures; and the effects of protracted home confinement, notably adolescent pregnancies, marriages and participation in economic activities (e.g. bricklaying, fishing, working in plantations and peddling merchandise by the roadside)
